Nicola Briggs
Nicola’s work is an exploration of layers capturing light, textures and muted colours inspired by the atmospheric elements of nature and landscapes, evoking an emotional connection of well-being and relaxation to each piece and encouraging you to be present in nature.
She creates hand built porcelain ceramics and atmospheric abstract paintings, drawing inspiration from natural textures, the shifting light across landscapes and a colour palette inspired by dramatic weather and moody skies.
Nicola handbuilds her statement ceramics from porcelain using textures, mark making techniques, layering glazes to react with each other to create a dynamic, interesting surface, embracing drips and finishing with platinum details. The Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi which embraces ‘perfectly imperfect’ organic shapes, torn rims, and intentional mark making is a thread throughout all of Nicola’s work.
