Angela Slack
Angela Slack MA (RCA) is an abstract painter and collage maker working from her home studio in Shropshire. Angela studied glass at the Royal College of Art, stained glass at Central St. Martins and Fine Art at Exeter College of Art and Design.
Recently Angela has been exploring ideas around absence and presence, the ‘between place’, where the familiar and the unknown co-exist.
For Angela, painting is an investigation where drawing lines and shapes is a balance between revealing and following the way of imagination and remembered images. Hand drawn marks, self made collage papers, direct paint application and glazed layers, combine to develop a sense of self-expression moving emotions to the surface. These abstracted images free the viewer from visual assumptions, enabling an awareness of the paint, not to represent, but as a process of making. Angela is often reminded of the connections of light, colour and composition, used in stained glass, when combining shapes and calligraphic brush marks in her paintings.
