Morag Quilliam

I started painting during Covid lockdown when various online classes became available, I immediately likd the speed of paint. The intensity of colour. The flexibility it allowed. For oover 30 years prior to this I had worked as a textile artist (Morag Gilbant) I had achieved a City and Guilds in Creative Studies (Embroidery) at South Trafford College  - which I completed with distinction in 1989. As such I exhibited widely both domestically and internationally.

My work tends to be smaller in scale. I use acrylic paint on board which can be framed or unframed. I rarely work to any preparatory skettches, preferring to be guided by the paint which I apply at random. The shapes which appar are my inspiration, and colours emerge from mixingand playing with what is on my palette.

I have found that bright and strong colours appeal to me especially and natural forms are a common theme. There is often a use of surface pattern which I am sure is linked to my years working in textile.
