Zelda Pickup

I am a painter and have always loved painting landscapes and seascapes. More recently I have also painted contemporary still life, an interest which arose out of lockdown when I looked more closely at the domestic objects which surround us and the quiet enjoyment which can be found there.

My still life paintings use simple forms, vibrant colours and an altered perspective. They particularly emphasize colour and colour relationships. For me, this combination lifts the work out of the ordinary and unexpectedly, there is an enigmatic sense of singularity within the work.

This thinking now also informs my landscape work which also adopts simple forms and altered perspective. I have long been interested in the use of colour and its effect on mood and atmosphere. The desire to find a combination that unlocks my vision is the constant motivation behind my work.

I am based in Cheshire and am a member of Northern Girls Art, a group of seven professional artists, who hold exhibitions at Clonterbrook Gallery. Some of my work will also be on exhibition there as part of the Goosfest ‘Art in the Barns’ arts festival this September.
