Jo Wright

Jo is an artist printmaker with a background in illustration and environmental education. Her work is inspired by encounters with wildlife in the natural world. It’s very important for Jo to see the wildlife she portrays in real life. Her aim is to convey the essence of the animal grounded in its native environment, to tell its unique story. Her latest work is inspired by wildlife she has seen in the Pyrénées Orientales.

Jo creates limited editions of her work mainly using relief print and silkscreen techniques. She uses field sketches, drawings and her own photos as reference. Jo’s a stickler for detail but also likes simple shapes and considered composition. Often, a brush pen drawing forms the basis for her prints. Layers of hand-mixed colour follow, using stencils, screens or carved blocks.

Jo works from Hot Bed Press in Salford, her home studio in Manchester and an isolated cottage near Céret in the French Pyrenees. Jo’s work has been exhibited most recently with the Society of Wildlife Artists at Mall Galleries London, Manchester Art Fair and several times at Art Fair Cheshire.
