Karen Wise
I am a Prestbury based artist and I work from my home based studio.
I originally trained in fashion design and have been painting for over 30 years. I am largely self-taught and I work in a contemporary and impressionistic way. I endeavour to place emphasis on vibrancy and colourful form, where appropriate, with a surreal twist.
The subject matter of my paintings can be inspired by memories, or by my experiences, and also, through historical and mythical references. I paint using various mixed media including watercolour, pen and ink, gouache, pastels and pencil.
I have exhibited in various galleries across the UK and was delighted to be shortlisted for the Daily Mail's 'Not The Turner Prize' with my work included in the final exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. I was also a prize winner in the prestigious 'Three Counties Open', shown at Keele University in 2020.
