Anita Murphy

I am a self taught artist, working in my shed/studio in the garden.

I paint and draw because “I have to”. It is a huge part of my life. There are no rights or wrongs in creativity. For me the whole process can be absorbing, frustrating and when it all works, elating. The learning never ceases.

I believe in drawing being a sound basis for any artist, no matter how they decide to develop their work, and want to dismiss the theory that a drawing is of less value than a painting.

I was accepted into the Manchester Academy of Fine Art (MAFA) and have exhibited my work in various venues in the North and London areas. I have received awards at some of these events.

I am President of Stockport Art Guild, which is an honour. The Guild has strong links with Stockport Memorial Art Gallery, and an interesting history which has resulted in the production of a fine book. I am proud to be part of it.

I cannot foresee the day when I will ever stop drawing and painting.
